There are tools that will write and publish your blog for the price of a takeaway. They are not a scam and some of them are clever. But it is worth knowing what you are actually buying, because the cheap part is not the writing.
| Automated SEO tools | Sitework | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Genuinely cheap. Often £20–£80 a month. | £300 every four weeks. Ten times the price, and I will not pretend otherwise. |
| Speed | First post live in minutes. | About a week, because the research happens before the writing. |
| Who checks the facts | Nobody. The model writes it and it goes live. | I read every page before it publishes. That is the job. |
| Your prices and claims | Whatever the model guesses about your trade. | Only the prices, guarantees and qualifications you have approved in writing. |
| Local detail | The same page with your town name dropped into it. | Real jobs you have done, in the towns you actually cover, with your photos. |
| Links to your site | Several advertise a “backlink exchange”: they place links between their own paying customers. | Earned from your own pages and real local sources, or not at all. Nothing traded, nothing bought. |
| If Google tightens the rules | Traded links are what Google’s link spam policy is written about. It is your site that carries the risk, not the tool’s. | Nothing to unwind. The work stands on its own. |
| When you stop paying | Content served by the tool can stop loading or disappear from your site. | Every page is a real file on your own website. It stays whether I do or not. |
| Reporting | A dashboard of numbers going up. | Plain English: what went out, what moved, what happens next. |
Being straight with you: if you have twenty quid a month and no site worth ranking, one of those tools is a reasonable place to start, and I would rather say so than sell you something you are not ready for. I use AI to draft too. The difference is that nothing reaches your website until a person has read it, checked it against what you actually do, and put their name to it.
The SEO work is identical either way. The only question is whether you already have a website worth pointing it at. If yours is slow, dated or you have not got one, the bundle is the better buy by a distance.
You already have a website you are happy with. I do the content engine on top of it.
What you get:
Needs a site I can publish to and edit. If yours cannot take new pages cleanly, I will tell you before you pay anything.
The same content engine, on a website I build, host and look after for you.
Everything in SEO only, plus:
The website costs £50. That is the whole difference between the two columns.
I will look at your trade, area and current site, then reply within one working day with the sensible next step. Jacob
